Drawing helps us to unlock and express the feelings, experiences and worries from deep within that we may not always feel able to articulate verbally or consciously.
By expressing these stored-away emotions and talking them through using gentle story-telling language, powerful healing can happen.
Working with me in a safe space for 12 weeks, your child will be invited to freely draw, play and express themselves. Working at their own pace, they will be encouraged to talk about their pictures using story-telling language, helping them to make sense of their internal world.
Working in small tailored groups, participants will engage in a variety of activities aimed at developing their emotional literacy, empathy and self confidence. Each session is created specifically to address the collective needs of the group.
It is incredible to see the bonds these children create as they learn to share and trust each other!
Using a sand tray, your child is invited to create their own unique
3-D sand pictures using props and figures to tell a story.
It is this evolving sand story that reflects aspects of their internal world, thoughts, feelings and experiences.
Sand Play is particularly suited to some of my younger clients
(5 years+) and those who show a preference for kinesthetic learning or tactile, sensory play.
Each client is offered a free, no obligation consultation at which we can discuss specific concerns or questions and I can learn more about your child.
You and their class teacher will then be invited to complete diagnostic questionnaires at the start and end of the block of sessions.
After the completion of sessions and final questionnaires and feedback has been collated, I provide a summary report.
I have a particular interest and experience in neurodiversity and am happy to signpost to other services and resources where appropriate.
All my sessions are held on school site, in a quiet room.
Children are taken out of class discreetly for 30 minutes at a time.
I am proud of the wonderful working relationships I have with the dedicated team of SENCO's in our local schools. We work closely together to ensure sessions are coordinated with school trips, INSET days and assemblies, rescheduling where necessary.
They also help me to ensure diagnostic questionnaires are completed and returned by class teachers so we can get a holistic view of the support needs of each child.
All clients, past and present, are invited to borrow books from my lending library which cover a range of subjects from breathwork to mindful drawing, Autism and neurodiversity.
